RAV Vast - F Astronaut
RAV Vast F Astronaut scale is the first instrument in RAV history that we created not alone. We developed it in collaboration with Kabeção, a Portuguese musician. After composing his famous composition, entitled Astronaut, he reached out to us with a wish to produce an instrument having the same vibe. We were inspired by the idea and the limitless power of space.
F Astronaut scale has a dreamy and mystical voice. Regardless of the fact that the sound of the F Astronaut scale resembles F Pygmy, it has its inimitable atmosphere. It is suitable both for beginners and advanced-level musicians who want to lose gravity and travel across universes.
F Astronaut is a beginner-friendly scale, so one does not need any musical background or knowledge. Seasoned musicians can also find this scale attractive. It has an inimitable sound with a particular dreamy mood. Thus, playing solo brings a unique delight. F Astronaut has a good sustain yet is excellent for percussive work. RAV was invented by a Russian engineer, Andrey Remyannikov in 2013, inspired by handpans, and turned out to become inimitable among other similar instruments. After months of daily work, several broken metal barrels and 100 rejected forms of ‘tongue’ (note) - Andrey’s first prototype was born. 100% hand-crafted, it was a homage to the Hang, but with a different look and totally unique sound.
He adopted the name RAV after handpan forum members and the drums’ very first owners took his full name - Remyannikov Andrey Vladimirovich - and gave the instrument this nickname.
Our instrument gives an easy access to creating music to everyone. Both, beginners and professionals. Today there are more than 20 different RAV Vast scales and more than 7 RAV Pan scales are handcrafted and we're constantly working on the new ones. Each scale represents a certain mood, inspired by a certain culture or harmony
